The key to understanding personal transformation is knowing that there is no “out there” vs. “in here”. As the famous Hermetic Axiom in Alchemy goes…”As Above, So Below”.

In the practice of Qi Gong (or energy work), we cultivate the flow of the energies within our body and become aware of the blockages in this flow. Life moves. Nature moves. Energy flows. It is the impedance or blockage of this energy that creates suffering, disease, and blockages in our “outer” lives. This is the tough part- the paradoxical notion that any of the “problems” we are facing in our lives are reflections of inner stagnation or blockages within our bodies or our consciousness. It is hard to grasp and even harder to accept until one TESTS it.

Let’s be scientific here. We can use our bodies and lives as our WORKSHOP and test various esoteric theories to see if they bear validity. I learned this from my Zen Master who always insists that the practice of observing one’s mind is very scientific. It took me a while to grasp his meaning because the “New Age” stance on so many of these topics is so belief-oriented…just throwing one’s self at a new set of dogma and usually a new “personality” one has inherited…

July 4th- 1776. We were under the tyrannical oppression of the English Crown. Over-taxed and burdened by the Central Bank of England, we were fed up and wanted our freedom.  We fought for that freedom and are now risking losing it again…to the FED, to Goldman Sachs, and to the international treaties that bind us to laws we didn’t vote for. That, however, isn’t the main issue at hand in my opinion.

The real issue is freedom for our consciousness. Humanity has fallen asleep to a dreary trance and is being leveraged to act, vote, think, and fight for reasons we are not even aware of. We sit in front of the tube and buy what we are told to buy because hopefully “this new thing” will make me happy. Nope- sorry bud, keep feeding the meter.

Today is the day where we can declare our independence and break free from tyranny. Here’s a list of a few areas where you may consider some action:

1- Your health - the “sickcare” system in the US is spiraling out of control and bankrupting the nation. Doctors have no incentive to keep people well as the drug companies keep promising miracle cures to issues that are lifestyle related. Personal responsibility is the key here. Take control of your diet, start to exercise, learn to meditate,  control your stress response, and get good sleep. Basic lifestyle is the “miracle” cure oftentimes. Stop eating GMO garbage food and you’ll need less drugs. The whole system is a trap- designed to extract your money and keep you dependent on your job for the health insurance.

Most people can relate to not feeling 100% because some issue or memory from their past is haunting them. It happens to all of us. Mom or dad say something, a girlfriend leaves us, we fail a test, or whatever. The list of things that can traumatize people grows longer every day and, unfortunately, most people are not equipped with the tools to heal these wounds.

I’ve been working with patients on this topic for years. There are a number of different types of therapy that have proven effective but none have shown me as much promise as qi gong combined with five elemental emotional cleansing and some deep meditation. Again, it took years of trial and error to come up with a system comprehensive enough to see long-lasting results with patients. How does it work?

Anxiety and Depression are taking over in the modern era.  Teenage depression has been increasing at alarming rates and parents are panicking about what to do about it.  Many are racing to psychiatrists asking for drugs while others are searching for more natural approaches.  Either way, parents are looking for answers because nobody wants to see their kids suffer.  So why teenage depression?

Well, let’s think about it for a minute.  These kids are being raised in a hectic, chaotic world where nothing makes sense yet they are being forced to fit in, finish their didactic homework, dress nice, and put a smile on their faces.  Heck, I’d be depressed too!  The problem with teenage depression is that we are trying to force these poor kids to fit into an insane world and wondering why their free and pure spirits resist.

This a a ten minute clip from my main zen mediation master who sounds like a Taoist but also speaks with some Buddhist influences.  His discourse is part of a longer interview which I will post soon.  This segment focuses on the nature of meditation and how we interface with our consciousness.  His discourse is truly magnificent because it really illuminates how most people are fixed on meditation technique versus a profound understanding of Who we truly are and how the Universe works.

Zen mediation and a profound understanding of Reality is not a meditation technique but an enhancement of one’s consciousness.  This falls in line with the true teaching of Taoist and Buddhist masters as well.

His English is a bit tough to understand but you’ll get used to it and its well worth the listen.

Enjoy!

Meditation- Rising Above the Noise

If you’ve tried to meditate and can’t figure out why it didn’t work for you, please read on.  Here’s the solution to your dilemma:

I often encounter mental blocks with students who are trying to learn how to meditate because their world view is jaded. People treat meditation like some sort of “chill pill”- something that helps them get through their hectic days.  This form of thinking has relegated an ancient form of deep wisdom into an inconvenient substitute for a pill.  That’s not the design and is a wholly inappropriate way dealing with one’s self.

Ramana Maharshi

Here we ask, Who Am I? – and challenge the notion of the self

Ramana Maharshi was a famous Indian Saint living around the turn of the 20th Century.  He was best known for his cutting discourse and no-nonsense approach to the human condition.  Ramana is one of my favorites because he delves deep into the process of personal inquiry.  His most notable contribution, in my opinion, is the essence of the inquiry into the “I”.

When asking the question, “Who am I?” for instance, Ramana’s response would have been another more poignant question- essentially, “Who just asked that?” and then “Who just answered that question?”- Deeper and deeper becomes the probe- (more…)

kids watching tv

The human brain is the most pliable and amenable to suggestion at an early age.  The suggestions we receive before the age of seven get deeply embedded in our psyche and, we have come to understand that subconscious programs run over 80% of our daily functions.  They become the foundation of who we are, how we see the world, and what type of genetic expression we manifest well into our adult lives.  They become our beliefs and our underlying programming which determine our reality.

The one thing that has become so appalling to me as I have been watching several loved ones raise their children is the degree of influence and control the media and large corporations have on our lives. (more…)

ring of power

How does the AMEX Black Card relate to your happiness?

In the classic series of “The Lord of the Rings”, J.R.R. Tolkein had created a masterpiece of literature and allegory.  I remember reading a bit from an interview with him once and was interested in his description of Frodo’s Ring of Power.  For those of you who have not become familiar with this work yet, drop everything and go read those books!

In the interview, Tolkein kept referring to the ring as “The Machine”. (more…)

gong

A Gong in Chinese Taoist tradition is a set amount of days one devotes to a particular task.  It is a promise to one’s self to stay focused and on path towards a designated goal.

The typical gong I like to practice with is the 100 Day GONG.  The reason for this is that it takes at least 90 days for a new habit/behavior to burn itself into our nervous system so I’ve had incredible success with this format over the years.  So what do you do during this gong? (more…)
