The Winter Solstice is one of the most important days in Taoist philosophy. It marks the time when the passive force of Yin is at its full expression and it heralds in the emergence of a kernel of Yang energy. Being the shortest day of the year, it is the full expression of darkness, cold climate, and passive/restful energy but it carries within it a powerful seed of potential. This Yang energy is just being brought into expression and, if cultivated correctly, can be used to create incredible things in our lives.
Yin is for rest and this is the time to hibernate. We must recover from the year and store up energy for next year’s dreams and aspirations. With that, if we properly nurture our essence, we can ride the wave of the growth of Yang energy into the next cycle. Yang will grow in power daily from the 22nd of this month onwards. It will reach a balance point with Yin on the Spring Equinox and finally reach its full expression on the Summer Solstice on June 21st of next year.
At this point, the Yang energy will be at its full expression and a small kernel of Yin energy will emerge and slowly grow into expression.
Now is the time to rest and now is the time to plan for the next cycle of growth. Meditate and rest up…you’ll be happy you did!
